It drives really nice like that, and if you throw a power steering belt the MC will still give you the best leverage to stop the vehicle. With the bronco MC and mercury HB I get brakes after about 3/4' of pedal travel then if the MC is empty the brake pedal will be about an 1/8' off the floor.

The fluid gets hot enough in about 45 seconds to start boiling. The belt is not slipping on the pulley or the pulley on the shaft. I made that part three times until I got it just the right length. I shut it down because im afraid the pump is burning up. You never know when you might need a part and be nowhere near home and all your tools. Besides a parts guy may not take the core for the one that is cut and threaded. I made this bracket for the input shaft so I could change HB in the future on the side of the road without changing rods or cutting and threading the shaft. You may actually have to adjust your lengths. If all of the shafts are the right length the pedal should stop just above the floor board. You want the entire system such that there is as little play in the brake pedal as possible.

even the spring doesn't have to be captured but it makes it harder to install the MC. I believe you unit uses a spring clip to hold the spring in place that returns the HB to zero, and you output shaft is captured in some fashion by that same washer. If all test and checks are OK, the booster is defective and should be replaced or. you can look down in the top of the MC and see if it moves. If pump output is below minimum specification, replace and repeat basic test. You can take your old MCX shaft and cut it so there is 0.020' or less end play but not so it starts to move the MC piston.
